I know what you're thinking. Three posts in a week? What is this, 2010? I'm just as shocked as you.
I did not want to take Hailey outside given that she is sick and it is freezing out, but then I remembered that the dog had a vet appointment this morning and we are at-risk of being fined by the city if I don't get his rabies shots and records renewed (so I suppose slightly important???) so we bundled up and went to the appointment.
You may remember this post where I talked about the relationship (or lack there of) between Oscar and Hailey. Around 10 months, when she was pulling up on furniture, their relationship was at its worst, and I truly did contemplate shipping him off somewhere. My loving husband explained to me that he was part of the family and "you do not give up on family". Softy.
Either way, it did get better, and now that she does not pull up on the couch and get in his face (most of the time), he is okay with her.
So we went into the vet's office and Oscar was about to get his vaccinations when he yelped. And yelped. The sound was a little disheartening for me, but apparently it got to my girl and she started to cry. Not the "I'm just being a whiny toddler", but more of a "What on Earth are you doing to MY dog?" cry. She was so so so worried about him and our conversation quickly went from calming Oscar down to giving him treats and telling Hailey that he was happy now and he's not hurt.
Best friends *still* may not be an accurate description, given their rocky relationship but we're getting closer to love-hate (rather than just hate).
