Baby's first cold

February 9, 2011

We made it exactly 16 months, but Hailey has contracted the common cold. This has been one of the most pathetic times yet. Forgive me if I act as though we have the plague. It's just that we have been spoiled with her health, and for that I am truly thankful. I caved and gave her a partial dose of cold medicine and that has actually helped, but it doesn't last too long. Her nose? Running like a faucet. And her voice? Sounds like she's a recovering smoker.

I am pretty certain she got it from the preschool where we do weekly play dates since one of the little boys was coughing up a lung last week. No amount of hand sanitation could keep these stupid germs away based on how miserable she sounds. She woke up early this morning, though I won't tell you what our definition of early is, since I am sure to lose readers based on that mere fact.
I am getting a preview into next winter, I think, since she'll be spending more time there next year. Is this what daycare is like? Yuck!

I am crossing my fingers that I do not get sick because I will be out of commission since I have not had a cold in almost 3 years. Although I think that is my reward for dealing with an entire 3rd trimester of congestion. Literally could not breathe out of my nose for 3 months.

So I will be spending the next few days pumping the humidifier in the baby's room (Yes, I will likely be that mom who refers to her first born as her baby until they are married 18)  and wait this out. Wish us luck!
